The School of Life

September 25, 2019

For years, I’ve been having recurring dreams that I’m back in college. I’m my current age, but back in a dorm and dealing with a class schedule and exams. I’ll go long periods without the dreams, and then I’ll dream them every night for a while—that’s where I am now.

I know the dreams show up when I’m in the midst of learning a life lesson, and it’s my subconscious reminding me life is school.  Sometimes I feel like it’s a really hard school, like a celestial level up from Yale or Harvard.

Yesterday I posted:

I had to make you uncomfortable, otherwise you never would have moved. - Universe

In "life school," we aren’t legally obligated to show up for our lessons. It’s easy to coast along and ignore stuff and play hooky. The universe keeps us on track by placing some challenges in front of us. If our souls have asked to learn and grow in a certain way, but we continue to ignore the lesson, the universe shoves it on our face (in the most loving way) to the point where we can’t ignore it any longer.

I’ve learned a lot of things that way, from extreme chronic pain to losing a precious animal way too soon. When you’re in the thick of a lesson, all you want to do is ask “why me,” but then on the other side of it, you’re wiser and more equipped to handle life. It’s like sweating through final exams and then graduating and throwing your cap up.

A year and a half ago in Costa Rica, I worked with a horse named Cosmo in a week-long workshop. On the first day I intuitively asked him, what do I need to know? He then showed me his legs in water. Huh? It was totally random and I immediately questioned my intuitive skills. I had a lot of challenges on that trip, questioning my own strength and abilities.

On the last day of the workshop, we rode our horses to a river, played in the water with them, and had an unforgettable time.

I found out the workshop facilitators didn’t know until the end of the week that they’d want us to have the river experience. Cosmo knew, days before they did, and told me so. The lesson? Don’t doubt yourself, magic is real, and there’s a lot more stuff beyond space and time.

That day in the river felt like a graduation. I had struggled, learned a ton, and then Cosmo and I celebrated. He wanted to give me a glimmer of that in the beginning of the week, so I could see the light to come.

And while the lessons never stop, the light always comes. ✨✨✨

It’s all about the magic. 🙌
